Presenting my first finish for the First Quarter FAL 2013:
I started this project on May 2nd, 2012. Listed it in several FAL posts, but somehow it always got overlooked. Do you remember what it looked like?
It's a little wobbly because I used my less quality fabrics and I believe the white was a sheet from my friend. I knew I will not make a whole quilt out of it, just wanted to try what it looked like if I strip pieced the fabrics and used the large curved templates as opposed to cut out the individual patches one-by-one. It doesn't look bad, but will try the patches anyway.
As some of you know I signed up for Leah Day's class Free Motion quilting a sampler on Craftsy with the intention of getting an idea of how to quilt my blue and white baby quilts. She had these 3 patterns I liked and wanted to practice so that's what I decided to use.
So here are the finished pictures after washing:

That's all for now, I'm in the process of deciding what pattern to use on the blue-white baby quilts. Stay tuned! :)
'Til we blog again! :)
What a great idea! I've been wanting to do a wedding ring quilt but did not like the idea of doing a whole quilt either! I'm pinning this!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great!! I love the colors and the quilting!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! Great quilt and great quilting! You did such an nice job. It's really wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! Love the FMQ; well done!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! I am seriously loving those rings :) You did an AWESOME job!!! xo
ReplyDeleteThe quilting is amazing for this project! Your binding turned out great too - did you use a tutorial?
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kati!
ReplyDeleteKati, I think this is the most perfect wedding ring I've ever seen! Usually they seem to come out oval or at least not quite round, but you did yours perfectly. It looks beautiful - fabrics, quilting, and binding - all perfect!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is my second comment? The first didn't appear, maybe because I wasn't signed in?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I just wanted to say that this is the most perfect wedding ring quilt I've ever seen! They usually seem to look more ovalish, but not this one! From fabrics to quilting to binding -- all are beautiful!
Kati, hello! Oh, I love this double wedding ring! You have such interesting solution of color. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love the quilting on this. Looking at double wedding ring quilts always exhausts me because I'm always overcome with the feeling that they must take forever! But they look so nice when they are done. Lovely finish!
ReplyDeleteVery nice!! I like the vintage feel...
ReplyDeleteOh I love how it turned out and as always I'm envious of your fmqing. Are you still going to give it to your cats?!!! :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I need to learn how to make a wedding ring, I have the templates but... procrastination rasis it's ugly head! xo
ReplyDeleteThe different FMQ'ing methods really bring it to life. I love your colour placement, the lower volume fabrics give it a wonderful heirloom quality. Your idea to chain piece is inspired, I like it very much. It's as though it gives a very old pattern a more modern edge.
ReplyDeleteQuilting looks great!
