So surprisingly I've been working on some stuff lately. I know, right? :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I finished my super secret projects, and also another one just came along as I was reading <a href="https://eveninginthegarden.wordpress.com/">Valerie's</a> blog, specially <a href="https://eveninginthegarden.wordpress.com/2015/10/04/sunday-stash-report-9415/">this</a> blogpost. She is participating in <a href="http://katandcatquilts.blogspot.com/2015/09/october-block-drive-string-blocks.html?m=1">Kat's blog drive </a>, and while reading her blog I realized it's a great cause, and not much effort to make some blocks. So I did, and forgot to take a picture before I closed the envelope. A real bummer!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
BUT... I did take some photos of the other things I've been working on! I went to house/dog/cat/guinea pig/chinchilla sit in the beginning of the month, where I had the evenings to myself alone, which I have to say was quiet nice. Literally.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had an opportunity to listen to my book (Outlander series), and do some hand stitching without any interruptions. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I took some 5" squares with me that I've cut previously (planning to take it with me this time). I used <a href="http://sy-elsk-lev.blogspot.no/2012/10/fabric-origami-ornament-tutorial.html">Sy, Elsk, Lev</a>'s very nicely written tutorial, I highly recommend it! The ornaments came out pretty good!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g57HgxWDGdE/Vij8lbCBpxI/AAAAAAAAPZg/J2OqE8AovXY/s1600/IMG_0872ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g57HgxWDGdE/Vij8lbCBpxI/AAAAAAAAPZg/J2OqE8AovXY/s640/IMG_0872ew.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One takes between 30-35 minutes to make from start to finish, including sewing on the buttons and the hangers. I did the folded parts first, then sewed the buttons and hangers on all of them at the same time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After I came back home I discovered some new episodes of Lewis on Amazon prime, and started to watch those, and needed some sewing project at the same time. I found more tutorials to use on my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/katisquilting/christmas-crafts/">Christmas Crafts Pinterest board</a>. Specifically <a href="http://katrinastutorials.blogspot.com/2009/09/fabric-ornament-number-one.html?m=1">Katrina's tutorial </a>which I found later <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwvNU1pGd-Y">via Youtube</a>. These need some machine sewing. I varied the sizes, and made the first one out of 8" circles, then went down to 6" to see what those would look like. I found the 8" ones too big (for my tree at least), but if you usually have a floor to ceiling tree the 8" would look fine. I took a picture of the small ones in the company of the one bigger one for comparison.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N3li7caamVc/VikDp2OlDmI/AAAAAAAAPZw/pMChe6lxgEk/s1600/IMG_0860ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="516" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N3li7caamVc/VikDp2OlDmI/AAAAAAAAPZw/pMChe6lxgEk/s640/IMG_0860ecw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course since the largest one was the first, I didn't realize I was supposed to use contrasting fabrics. DUH! But at the end I like the way it looks, so I just left it the way it is. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here is a close-up of the bigger one:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-31o_uq_6Kck/VikEDOh1X_I/AAAAAAAAPZ4/AdDMmIygZmo/s1600/IMG_0860ecw2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="350" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-31o_uq_6Kck/VikEDOh1X_I/AAAAAAAAPZ4/AdDMmIygZmo/s640/IMG_0860ecw2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Finally I wanted to see if I can find some new card designs that I like, so I tried out <a href="http://stitchnsing.blogspot.com/2011/12/somerset-star-christmas-card-tutorial.html">Stich n sing</a>'s Somerset Star card tutorial. It's a bit tedious, but it was worth a try. All I can tell it'll be not the default Christmas card I'll make this year :) I got as far as making the star, will still have to "fix" it to the card stock I'm guessing by stitching...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y5LR41oL5Xk/VikFn1xXNjI/AAAAAAAAPaE/OcRwLyrgEUQ/s1600/IMG_0867ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y5LR41oL5Xk/VikFn1xXNjI/AAAAAAAAPaE/OcRwLyrgEUQ/s640/IMG_0867ecw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Finally some Fall photos I took with my phone while walking. I love the colors!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll be away this weekend again, and will do some more hand sewing. Stay tuned for more photos!</div>

Sally, my very dear friend had her birthday last week. I mentioned in my<a href="http://katisquilting.blogspot.com/2015/09/some-new-things-going-on.html"> last post</a> that I was making an apron for her. I was searching for free patterns all over google, but didn't find the type I wanted. So I went to my own apron which I got from my friends 3 years ago, and thought I could make a pattern from that. So I did! It took me several trials and errors, a few days of cursing trying to figure out what went wrong, but at the end I did it. She came over for tea, and I gave it to her, she loved it! She is the BEST person to make handmade gifts for, she appreciates every single one of them. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't take a picture of the finished item, but I did one of her wearing it :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iP535rHd4M0/VgvxgEPFJXI/AAAAAAAAPZI/7KLcDdA_SP8/s1600/Sally%2Bapron%2Bw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iP535rHd4M0/VgvxgEPFJXI/AAAAAAAAPZI/7KLcDdA_SP8/s640/Sally%2Bapron%2Bw.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
When she saw me making the <a href="http://katisquilting.blogspot.com/2015/09/some-new-things-going-on.html">sewing machine cover</a>, she pointed out how much she loved the fabric, and the argyle patter is her favorite. So I knew it right there I wanted to make something for her birthday, and since She's cooking a lot, I thought an apron would be a good idea :)<br />
Btw... The fabric is from Allison Rosen's (@WithinAQInch) de-stashing, and I'm in love with it. Thankfully she had 3 or 4 yards, so I still have plenty of it left :)))<br />
Next project is super secret-y, I'm done with one, still working on the other. Will post about it when the time has come. I think I'll start my Christmas things after that, I'm gathering ideas for new Christmas cards (I always start too late, so I want to get ahead this year). I'll still have to order some laminated fabrics for the gifts I was planning to make. Wish me luck :)<br />
<br />

Yes, it's me, the stranger again... I know :) But I'm not sorry. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm glad to be back to sewing again, I'm planning Christmas presents in my head already. It'll be here before we know it. It always is.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the meantime I had to get back to sewing as it's the beginning of the school year, and my friend asked me to *gasp* hem 6 pairs of pants for her son for his school uniform. Nothing fancy. It gave me an opportunity to get friendly with my sewing machine again, and also start watching the Outlander series while I was cutting/pinning/sewing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After I was done I dug up a Youtube video I just watched a few weeks before about making a sewing machine cover. It's by Debbie Shore, link is here: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiHSXZcItXc">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiHSXZcItXc</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I can highly recommend her videos, She is an excellent instructor and makes things seem so easy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I changed a few things, like I didn't have foam on hand that she was using, so I used the Pellon 809 Decor Bond iron on interfacing. That was the heaviest I had on hand.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also I made the mistake of hemming the side of the pockets instead of just leaving the raw edges and let them be sewn into the seam allowance. It was a bit more difficult to handle the sewing of the sides, but no major issues. It came out OK, I'm sure it'll be better next time in case I need another one!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-plWDltwtdI8/VgK9xM-pp1I/AAAAAAAAPYM/SY89dpOhpjQ/s1600/IMG_20150923_095037629%2Bw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-plWDltwtdI8/VgK9xM-pp1I/AAAAAAAAPYM/SY89dpOhpjQ/s640/IMG_20150923_095037629%2Bw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm working on an apron for my friend's birthday this week, I have an apron that I really like and will use that as a pattern. I've sewn the ties so far :) I will have to cut the pattern out of the fabric and get going. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's all for now, I'll be back to post pictures later this week!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Kati from Kati's Quiltinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06629049955792425959noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6717875797969584291.post-10418768625696194842014-12-05T11:34:00.000-05:002014-12-05T11:34:09.384-05:00What time is it anyway?<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, right! It's Bonnie K. Hunter's annual mystery quilt time! This year it's called Grand Illusion as she got the inspiration from the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. For the link, click <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/grand-illusion-mystery.html">here</a>. I know what you're thinking right now... I should finish up the quilt tops I have already. But isn't it a lot easier to just start a new one? I have all the intentions of finishing the ones I have, don't get me wrong... But that would mean totally organizing myself, which right now I'm not quiet ready to do.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And I know <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2014/11/grand-illusion-part-1.html">Part 1</a>, and <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2014/12/grand-illusion-part-2.html">Part 2</a> are out already, but I'm a little slow this year. I was away on Thanksgiving weekend when the first clue came out, then things came up, and I never started. Yet :) And to be honest, after I saw Part 2, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Easy Angle ruler. Yes, I have to admit, I'm not a specialty ruler person, but since it's the 3rd mystery quilt I'm doing with her, and by now I noticed she loves to use this ruler, I might as well spend the $7.50 (+tax) it costs. Maybe it's me getting older, and lazier to calculate the math it's involved, or might be the person inside me saying why waste all that fabric making the diamond units with the cut-away-the-corner-triangles method, I'm not sure. It is what it is :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Most important of all, I picked my fabrics. It wasn't easy, as I'm working with my stash (trying not bo buy fabric if I really don't have to...). The greens were a real challenge. I still haven't decided if I should use all blacks, or black and whites for the blacks, but seeing people's units for the first part, I think I'll be safe mixing up both. We shall see :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Other than this, no sewing done since the last post, except that I got the belt and bobbin winder I ordered for the Singer 27. I think by now Fiance is not against me keeping it, I just have no idea where I'll put the table. Right now it's in the garage, covered all the way in the back, serving as a snow tire rack :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So for this year's mystery I selected the following fabrics:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The whites are nothing exciting, tone-on-tones:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FQJD__h3ORE/VIHZHajQXxI/AAAAAAAAPN4/xk-kuLcdCb0/s1600/IMG_0827ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FQJD__h3ORE/VIHZHajQXxI/AAAAAAAAPN4/xk-kuLcdCb0/s1600/IMG_0827ecw.jpg" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DEgSmQ8AEHU/VIHZIRqkHXI/AAAAAAAAPOA/qyUlkjgOT-M/s1600/IMG_0829ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DEgSmQ8AEHU/VIHZIRqkHXI/AAAAAAAAPOA/qyUlkjgOT-M/s1600/IMG_0829ecw.jpg" height="404" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The 2 hand dyes in this pile were hand dyed by me about 12 years ago using the shaving cream technique as seen on Simply Quilts :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cj7L1NQGofw/VIHZIz8PxhI/AAAAAAAAPOE/7-YOL3FKghI/s1600/IMG_0830ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cj7L1NQGofw/VIHZIz8PxhI/AAAAAAAAPOE/7-YOL3FKghI/s1600/IMG_0830ecw.jpg" height="468" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e-fBpVQz9lA/VIHZKfsW35I/AAAAAAAAPOQ/9NkmssYq8Z4/s1600/IMG_0833ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e-fBpVQz9lA/VIHZKfsW35I/AAAAAAAAPOQ/9NkmssYq8Z4/s1600/IMG_0833ecw.jpg" height="420" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Jaye (@artquiltmaker) helped me to pick out my greens:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sP_uNXOGYLo/VIHZMCfebNI/AAAAAAAAPOY/gBqQD-LAOyA/s1600/IMG_0837ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sP_uNXOGYLo/VIHZMCfebNI/AAAAAAAAPOY/gBqQD-LAOyA/s1600/IMG_0837ecw.jpg" height="410" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGxylHLzjcU/VIHZNxupQiI/AAAAAAAAPOg/EXMLdbV-C44/s1600/IMG_0840ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGxylHLzjcU/VIHZNxupQiI/AAAAAAAAPOg/EXMLdbV-C44/s1600/IMG_0840ewc.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
All together:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b8tqqqgNNFs/VIHZPcq9dKI/AAAAAAAAPOo/nGL5TK25RXY/s1600/IMG_0842ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b8tqqqgNNFs/VIHZPcq9dKI/AAAAAAAAPOo/nGL5TK25RXY/s1600/IMG_0842ecw.jpg" height="246" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I had an accident... when cleaning the vintage treadle sewing machine :( while trying to disassemble the bobbin winder, part of it broke :(<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Luckily I could get the exact part by ordering online, I haven't changed it yet. In the mean time I ordered a new belt, which also came. Now we "only" have to bring the table upstairs and install the belt to see how it works. Fingers crossed!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
During Thanksgiving break I had my name day (which we used to celebrate when I lived in Hungary, not so much anymore). DF got me this beautiful bouquet of roses. As you can see Roxy kitty was trying to have a taste. Lucked out with the little white flowers. Guess they didn't taste too good, because after the first attempt she luckily gave up.</div>

Sooo.... the wait is over, and the <strike> cat </strike> sewing machine is out of the bag... so to speak. :) My twilter friends already know, but in case someone missed it, and of course for the rest of the followers, a few weeks ago we bought this sewing machine at an estate sale. The family Grandmother died, leaving behind several children and grandchildren, who decided to sell her house. Entirely! Furniture, belongings, and all. She had this beautiful Singer 27 treadle sewing machine, which dates to July 28, 1904. My Fiance saw it, and sent me a photo. My heart just skipped a beat at that moment. I told him to buy it, it was priced to a $150, including the table. We didn't know if it was in working condition, or not, but I thought we could take the risk. I have memories with this type of sewing machine, as my Mom owns one, and I learned to sew on it. I'm sure I could still use it, as it is like riding a bike, right? You can never forget once you know how to do it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I was at work, and sent my Fiance back to buy the machine. He started negotiating with the guy who was selling it, and the guy stated they had someone to come and estimate the value of the belongings, and they priced everything accordingly. Fiance started to reason that we don't even know if it's working, it's rusty, blah blah blah. He offered $60 for it, so they settled at $80. I was so thrilled, I couldn't wait to get home! We went to pick it up together, and it's in a lot worse shape than it was on the photo, I have to say that. But nothing a little cleaning can't help with. I turned the wheel, and the needle is going up and down. I will have to buy a new belt, which I looked up on eBay, it costs about $5-6. I cleaned the table the same day, and sat down to clean the machine, and got about half way through in an afternoon. It is beautiful I can tell that already. I oiled every single part with sewing machine oil, and I can't wait to get it finished and working. I took a ton of pictures before I'd set to work, so I can show those, the after pictures will be in a little while, as Fiance will have to restore the table a little bit. I have not decided if I will keep it or not, as we don't have room at all in our apartment. I will have to come up with something really clever to convince him to store it here. We shall see!</div>

I've been wanted to sit down to write a blog post for a while, but life always got in the way. It seems like when July rolled around my life just got into speed up mode, and come to November finally it looks like will slow down just a bit. However today's post will be a little off topic, but with lots of photos.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since my Grandparents died I've been talking to my Mom more than I ever did. She changed so much over the years since I left, and it's quiet surprising at times :) For example, she got into taking care of plants. I mean, she is recovering almost dying orchids that people wanted to throw out, and I have to say with quiet a success. She sent me a photo a few months ago, and my jaw just dropped. I had some orchids I got as presents over the years, and stopped blooming, and was wondering what I did wrong. Between my Mom's advice, and a guy called <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/Icatizp?feature=em-subs_digest">Brad</a> I found on Youtube, I can say I successfully saved my orchids that were dying as I just realized lately. I will not go into details, but I replanted all 3 of them, and after 2 months one of them will be blooming soon, and the leaves on the other two are coming back to life.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
Here they are after potting them, on September 12 for the before photos, and as of today on the following ones.<br />
<br />
This one was in the worst shape out of the 3. See how the lower leaves are all wrinkled?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGjZx5KN-1U/VFpCo3QLpTI/AAAAAAAAPHo/sCA9sXH18fU/s1600/IMG_0741cw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGjZx5KN-1U/VFpCo3QLpTI/AAAAAAAAPHo/sCA9sXH18fU/s1600/IMG_0741cw.jpg" height="640" width="566" /></a></div>
<br />
Same one from a different view:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lboGz12SiJ0/VFpCp13l0NI/AAAAAAAAPHw/83ZupKvWNtg/s1600/IMG_0742w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lboGz12SiJ0/VFpCp13l0NI/AAAAAAAAPHw/83ZupKvWNtg/s1600/IMG_0742w.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And here it is as of today, after the weekly bath. Notice the little leaf that's growing in the middle?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-74vqcfIOCmk/VFpITiljmdI/AAAAAAAAPIg/bL9Mx7Sw9Xg/s1600/IMG_0823cw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-74vqcfIOCmk/VFpITiljmdI/AAAAAAAAPIg/bL9Mx7Sw9Xg/s1600/IMG_0823cw.jpg" height="386" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This was in a rough shape, not as bad as the first:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R9W7nfUUl1U/VFpCsLo8jHI/AAAAAAAAPH4/2mnF8wzNmdE/s1600/IMG_0743w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R9W7nfUUl1U/VFpCsLo8jHI/AAAAAAAAPH4/2mnF8wzNmdE/s1600/IMG_0743w.jpg" height="640" width="496" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The new leaf grew a lot, and the wrinkles are almost gone:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fg50ZudzpC4/VFpIAD1OTOI/AAAAAAAAPIY/Vw45kmOuWcw/s1600/IMG_0822ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fg50ZudzpC4/VFpIAD1OTOI/AAAAAAAAPIY/Vw45kmOuWcw/s1600/IMG_0822ew.jpg" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This was in really good condition, I think due to the latest purchase:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ghV78W14qcg/VFpCuNnYywI/AAAAAAAAPIA/7O9SlhRncAk/s1600/IMG_0744w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ghV78W14qcg/VFpCuNnYywI/AAAAAAAAPIA/7O9SlhRncAk/s1600/IMG_0744w.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And here it is, with the stem growing for the flowers (the dark green one under the leaf):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XKdsTQNRiUU/VFpJDb3vZdI/AAAAAAAAPIo/-v7ukzrFV14/s1600/IMG_0811ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XKdsTQNRiUU/VFpJDb3vZdI/AAAAAAAAPIo/-v7ukzrFV14/s1600/IMG_0811ew.jpg" height="408" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As anyone can see they are a bit more weathered than they used to be due to a couple of accidents involving Paw and his curiousness (is that the right word?) resulting knocking them over twice within a week, once at midnight... Oh, the joy of kittens :)<br />
<br />
And a bonus: One can never be unguarded in the bathroom... :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hDRLwRBZYZo/VFpCzFSCfnI/AAAAAAAAPII/cMN5xTs1ahI/s1600/IMG_0767cw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hDRLwRBZYZo/VFpCzFSCfnI/AAAAAAAAPII/cMN5xTs1ahI/s1600/IMG_0767cw.jpg" height="354" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Besides all the work I'm doing I got involved in making kombucha. I'm really excited about it, as it is also a "growing" thing :)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I will be back with a different post as I realized how picture heavy this one became, but I have a very exciting news to share, in case you're not on twitter :)</div>

Hey everyone,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Welcome back!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had a very busy last few weeks, and hardly got to sit down to sew. I did some minor repairs, but not much quilting done.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The last few weeks I realized that I am in a desperate need to have my own quilt as I was spending a few nights on our office sofa. No, nothing is wrong between Fiance and I, and I'm not planning on breaking up with him or anything. But unfortunately we lost our baby kitty on July 25th due to a mysterious accident, and we were both devastated along with Smoky who lost his brother. In a few days we decided to adopt a kitten to have him some company in these very difficult times. We both miss Sleepy terribly as we were raising him since the day he was born.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The new kitty arrived in 4 days, we named him Paw as he has gigantic size paws. He just turned 6 months about a week ago, and was very scared, hissing and growling at Smoky. Fortunately he is such a calm grown-up kitty, and can make friends with strangers. So I spent the first 2 nights with Paw in the office, and Smoky was sleeping with Fiance in our bedroom. It took them a few days to get to know each other, and it's been six weeks since the adoption, after 2 weeks they started to play with each other. Things are going well, despite the circumstances.<br />
Here they are, unfortunately I only have a phone picture to show.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dEfVLhAlCt0/VBZPanOmPUI/AAAAAAAAPGw/Yjjy0tLGZIw/s1600/IMG_20140802_074939w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dEfVLhAlCt0/VBZPanOmPUI/AAAAAAAAPGw/Yjjy0tLGZIw/s1600/IMG_20140802_074939w.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I did finish putting the borders on Lucky Stars finally, and also pieced the backing together for my Celtic Solstice. I did a mitered corner on Lucky Stars, as I thought what the heck... </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eAU5MR-6kw8/VBZPoXhgX5I/AAAAAAAAPG4/plqgl857_8U/s1600/IMG_0753ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eAU5MR-6kw8/VBZPoXhgX5I/AAAAAAAAPG4/plqgl857_8U/s1600/IMG_0753ewc.jpg" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<br />
For the backing of Celtic Solstice I used similar colors as are in the quilt top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Te-bshULD5s/VBZPpqT6xlI/AAAAAAAAPHA/gMSrO7MRrbs/s1600/IMG_0749ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Te-bshULD5s/VBZPpqT6xlI/AAAAAAAAPHA/gMSrO7MRrbs/s1600/IMG_0749ecw.jpg" height="640" width="524" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's weird to be in my sewing room without my regular helper, sometimes Smoky comes to keep me company and guard my fabrics.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I have a lot of tops to be quilted, and was thinking I should start basting them, the smallest one first, but then realized I don't have a backing for that one, and need to make one for Lucky Stars, too. Always something :)<br />
<br />
Chain of Stars top, waiting for basting:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6x4ylv7Sq6U/VBZQche0NwI/AAAAAAAAPHI/EbfvJqvv0-c/s1600/IMG_0756ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6x4ylv7Sq6U/VBZQche0NwI/AAAAAAAAPHI/EbfvJqvv0-c/s1600/IMG_0756ecw.jpg" height="612" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have so many things I have to get done that I had to write a list :) Some of it was crossed out already, but there's still plenty left...<br />
<br />
That's all for now, I'll be back with some updates, hopefully soon!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

Kati from Kati's Quiltinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06629049955792425959noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6717875797969584291.post-56383619549948823932014-07-04T15:57:00.000-04:002014-07-04T15:57:27.386-04:00Never fear...<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yesterday while starting to work on my secret project, the first step was winding the bobbin. Everything went well until I heard a crack. Then I heard another one. At that point I stopped winding, and took the bobbin off the spindle.</div>
<br />
What's wrong with this picture?!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HrQZWtfnByg/U7cFg9a7c0I/AAAAAAAAPF8/gymVmKaK2X8/s1600/Bobbin1w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HrQZWtfnByg/U7cFg9a7c0I/AAAAAAAAPF8/gymVmKaK2X8/s1600/Bobbin1w.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
What? You can't see it? Hint: look at the one in focus!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VRXMFFkPsSI/U7cFg2g6guI/AAAAAAAAPF0/C58hPIOmNG4/s1600/Bobbin2w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VRXMFFkPsSI/U7cFg2g6guI/AAAAAAAAPF0/C58hPIOmNG4/s1600/Bobbin2w.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So when this happens never fear! I was stunned for a second because I hate to waste good thread. Not even when I got the whole spool for under $2. No. So I got the idea of putting the damaged spool on the vertical spindle on my machine, and wind it as it was regular thread. I'd set my machine to a lower speed (because it's great, and has that nice feature) and wound the bobbin like I normally would.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8EJmsTbacBo/U7cFg88p2oI/AAAAAAAAPF4/IjY3hnBj2Ho/s1600/Bobbin3w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8EJmsTbacBo/U7cFg88p2oI/AAAAAAAAPF4/IjY3hnBj2Ho/s1600/Bobbin3w.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The result? A totally functional bobbin. There, you have it! :)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

I have been away for a while as I haven't touched my sewing machine in a month. Which is a big deal as I got a brand new one with all the features I wanted. It's "only" a Singer, but since I've had Singers since I started sewing, even back in Hungary, I stayed with the brand. I bought a lot of accessories over the years that I can still use with both my vintage and my computerized sewing machine. I didn't want to shell out a lot of money for a big brand machine as I don't do everyday quilting, and I'm not a big shot blogger, or a professional quilter. This is just my hobby, which I do as my mood changes. Speaking of which...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The reason why I was away is that I lost both my dear grandparents within 4 days in the beginning of June. It was a lot of pain, and lot of whys, and the thought to know I will not be able to see them again. The funeral was held last Friday and I feel like I'm getting better. I even managed not to cry the last few days which is a lot from me :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They were really close and dear to me as I spent all my summer vacations with them as a kid, my Grandmother even took me to work with her before she retired. Now I accept the fact that they were old, Grandpa 91, Grandma 84, but you don't think about that when they are in such a good shape from all the hard physical work they've done their whole life. Besides a cold they were never sick, had to take no medication. After all that happened I just didn't feel like doing anything, my days were passing by. Now that we said our final good-bye-s I just have to move on and follow the land of living.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That involves a secret project which was delayed with all this going on, but I got on it and will post pictures soon. Promise :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am still working on the Lucky Stars top, as I didn't calculate the border right and I ran a side short, oops! I have to make a few more strips, and sew them together to be able to attach it to the top. I still haven't washed the backing fabrics I had ordered, so it's all good. It's not that they're crying to be used or anything... :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once that's done I'm planning to do an inventory with my UFO-s just to know how many tops I need to quilt, and how many backs to make/order. I did clean up my sewing room which involved taking everything out, and I found a few battings in the process that I forgot about. So I think I'm okay in that department.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I started running again, not as intensively as I used to, but slowly working my way up. The longest I did the other day was 3.5 miles, which is fine, since the weather is crazy hot here these days, and the humidity is just ridiculous... Today it's 85%. I'm okay with walking, thank you very much!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have been cooking off my <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/katisquilting/healthy-food-to-cook-now/">Pinterest board</a> this week. So far all the recipes I tried were delicious, and really healthy. If you need some ideas, hop on over, and also check out the <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/katisquilting/eatingwell-recipes/">Eatingwell,</a> and <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/katisquilting/healthy-food-ideas/">Healthy food ideas</a> boards. There is also one with <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/katisquilting/healthy-snacks/">healthy snacks</a> and <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/katisquilting/juice-recipes/">juice recipes</a>. I did a juice fast for 7 days back in February (After watching Fat, sick, and nearly dead on Netflix), and decided to avoid wheat, and dairy products in my eating. Dairy was bothering me anyways, even though I was never diagnosed with lactose intolerance, but it runs in my family, so I know it's a problem. Originally I cut back on sugar, too, but I eat fruits, and that counts, even though it's the good one. As a result I lost 26.5 pounds, which I needed desperately. I'm thinking about doing another juice fast one of these weeks, just to reboot my system.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That is all for now, and so we don't go without pictures, I will paste in the photo of the pretty petunias in front of our house:</div>

It's been a while again since I posted last time. Life got in the way which I would not like to explain right now, maybe in a while after everything is settled. I promised to post a tutorial about how I'm measuring and attaching the border on my quilt top without using a measuring tape.I use this method every time I have to put a border on a large quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First, press the top, and lay it out on a hard surface. Then measure the sides of your quilt to determine how long of the border strip you need to make. You take 2x the length, + 2x the width of your top. Add about 10 inches to be on the safe side. Take your continuous border strips to the top, and lay it down in the middle lining up the edges.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r-StlOS-qHU/U54Neq432eI/AAAAAAAAPEk/748InH1MITI/s1600/IMG_0704ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r-StlOS-qHU/U54Neq432eI/AAAAAAAAPEk/748InH1MITI/s1600/IMG_0704ew.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The next step is to fold the border strip back, and cut with scissors, matching up the fold with the edge of the quilt top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RkEdfnIwWMY/U54N4TzjaPI/AAAAAAAAPEs/EarPbw2ohGg/s1600/IMG_0707ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RkEdfnIwWMY/U54N4TzjaPI/AAAAAAAAPEs/EarPbw2ohGg/s1600/IMG_0707ew.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then holding up the strip that was just cut, line up the ends with the rest of the uncut border strips carefully.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r7W2kfB0lNM/U54N6yf0DuI/AAAAAAAAPE0/MAPKLZ9mE2U/s1600/IMG_0708ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r7W2kfB0lNM/U54N6yf0DuI/AAAAAAAAPE0/MAPKLZ9mE2U/s1600/IMG_0708ew.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Cut the end the same way, folding back the longer strips, matching the fold with the end of the border strip.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HEWVwMNfb4Q/U54N9sS20EI/AAAAAAAAPE8/OrCmRr5Xj8Y/s1600/IMG_0709ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HEWVwMNfb4Q/U54N9sS20EI/AAAAAAAAPE8/OrCmRr5Xj8Y/s1600/IMG_0709ew.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Pin the borders in place, and sew it on. After pressing, repeat all the steps with the other 2 sides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PMIGXk5t7cg/U54ODt2EQoI/AAAAAAAAPFE/hJ-7mDFYmnE/s1600/IMG_0714ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PMIGXk5t7cg/U54ODt2EQoI/AAAAAAAAPFE/hJ-7mDFYmnE/s1600/IMG_0714ew.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Easy peasy :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm working on my Lucky Star quilt top, putting the borders on, this time mitered. That'll be my next post.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

I decided to make it bigger, and also I didn't like it not having a border since the pattern went all the way out and it would've bothered my eyes after binding.<br />
Remember the top when it looked like this?:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VLAl0ET7pcg/U3TUOmQxwRI/AAAAAAAAPCw/Fryv0nO3bSs/s1600/IMG_0591ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VLAl0ET7pcg/U3TUOmQxwRI/AAAAAAAAPCw/Fryv0nO3bSs/s1600/IMG_0591ewc.jpg" height="640" width="612" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love the design and wanted to make it float and stand out so I pieced some background fabrics together for a fairly wide border. I like it much better now. I was thinking to put squares in the middle of each of the borders so the square pattern can come together, but it would've been too much hassle, so I just decided against it.</div>
<br />
It turned out this way:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-72Ou6s0UgEE/U3TZKDNk0iI/AAAAAAAAPC4/QPYCQSoXfCc/s1600/IMG_0729ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-72Ou6s0UgEE/U3TZKDNk0iI/AAAAAAAAPC4/QPYCQSoXfCc/s1600/IMG_0729ecw.jpg" height="614" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's a rainy day outside so I had to ask Fiance to hold the top up for me, pardon the fingers! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also made the binding <a href="http://www.hiptobeasquarepodcast.com/">@pantsfreesia</a>-style! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rHk3lfAZoYs/U3TaNGIwbkI/AAAAAAAAPDA/jDsDld-7Cwg/s1600/IMG_0718ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rHk3lfAZoYs/U3TaNGIwbkI/AAAAAAAAPDA/jDsDld-7Cwg/s1600/IMG_0718ew.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I'm just waiting for the backing to arrive which I ordered from <a href="http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/">Hancocks of Paducah</a> since they had a sale going on, plus I got a 20% off coupon code in the email for Mother's day, so win-win for me! I have so many thing to do, and I really don't feel like piecing the backing for now.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I took pictures of how I did the borders without using a measuring tape, and will write up a tutorial on that in tomorrow's post.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last posted. Time flies when you're having fun, I guess! I finally had my editing software re-installed after I got an SSD drive put into my laptop (by DF) for better speed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I whipped up a few oven mitts as presents and since I was at it I also made some for myself. I used any strings I had on hand, they were all under 2". I made up the pattern using my own hand, and after I was done I just realized the insul bright I was using has a pattern on the packaging. Oh, well! I will use that next time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I asked the design question on twitter of which quilting method people would prefer, and most of them voted for lines, so after I made the grid one, the second one stayed with line quilting.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The method I used making them was I cut out the shape of the mitten with a generous seam allowance from insul bright, and then started to sew my strings on top, and fold and press as I went. When I was done I trimmed it to size, and quilted it, putting the flannel as backing. I've sewn it right side facing, and also stuck a little hanging tag in between, facing the inside of the mitten. Finally I machine bound it, also with leftover binding from an earlier baby quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So here's the one with the grids, front and back:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iK0_Ab1Ao0U/U3Qaqk0SOFI/AAAAAAAAPBo/fAQKhEY8Dok/s1600/IMG_0690ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iK0_Ab1Ao0U/U3Qaqk0SOFI/AAAAAAAAPBo/fAQKhEY8Dok/s1600/IMG_0690ecw.jpg" height="474" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OM24BDcGKlI/U3Qat7hnMiI/AAAAAAAAPBw/r1XKHCqNvBE/s1600/IMG_0692+ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OM24BDcGKlI/U3Qat7hnMiI/AAAAAAAAPBw/r1XKHCqNvBE/s1600/IMG_0692+ecw.jpg" height="500" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And the one people liked more, the line quilted:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cZPrV6aTCak/U3QavCIDMUI/AAAAAAAAPB4/bxA-hxU4EPA/s1600/IMG_0694ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cZPrV6aTCak/U3QavCIDMUI/AAAAAAAAPB4/bxA-hxU4EPA/s1600/IMG_0694ecw.jpg" height="430" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I totally love the binding on this one! The inside is flannel, nice and soft.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NnmqZXjZ6y8/U3Qa07OngyI/AAAAAAAAPCI/5drHB6-w7aM/s1600/IMG_0699ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NnmqZXjZ6y8/U3Qa07OngyI/AAAAAAAAPCI/5drHB6-w7aM/s1600/IMG_0699ewc.jpg" height="320" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Also made this square one after a pattern of my old hot pad because I liked the fact that it had a pocket and I could just stick my hand in there quickly and it didn't require 2 hands to put on. I forgot to round the corners a little bit, but I think it will just do like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K0zDfFdquEE/U3Qa4HUvvyI/AAAAAAAAPCY/ClBjzABtxq4/s1600/IMG_0725ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K0zDfFdquEE/U3Qa4HUvvyI/AAAAAAAAPCY/ClBjzABtxq4/s1600/IMG_0725ewc.jpg" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the back:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-47mcL-mSpMg/U3Qa5Gx_BTI/AAAAAAAAPCg/IM702roRHS0/s1600/IMG_0727ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-47mcL-mSpMg/U3Qa5Gx_BTI/AAAAAAAAPCg/IM702roRHS0/s1600/IMG_0727ewc.jpg" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was rocking the machine binding on this one :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And finally I made this one out of flannel, which feels super soft. The flannels were leftovers from 2 receiving blankets I made waaaay back when.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's the front:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tGz-MFioRcw/U3Qa1tMNdKI/AAAAAAAAPCQ/B26juXcmqjk/s1600/IMG_0721ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tGz-MFioRcw/U3Qa1tMNdKI/AAAAAAAAPCQ/B26juXcmqjk/s1600/IMG_0721ewc.jpg" height="640" width="632" /></a></div>
<br />
The back (a little wrinkly since I've been using it for 2 weeks):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Odgah7EfpoE/U3Qa2uuMcwI/AAAAAAAAPCU/Qwqp47ab2t4/s1600/IMG_0723ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Odgah7EfpoE/U3Qa2uuMcwI/AAAAAAAAPCU/Qwqp47ab2t4/s1600/IMG_0723ewc.jpg" height="640" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Before you ask what's with the stitches... First of all, since it was for me, I didn't bother with bias binding, so the binding is leftover I had from my blue and white quilts. Second of all, I made and oopsie and sewed the binding on the front first, then stitched it down on the back. Yeah. But no one else will see it, so I didn't bother correcting it. I remembered it on the second one I made, and that looks fine :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That is all for now, I also made progress on my Chain of Stars quilt, but I will blog about that in a different post.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

...I'm home this week, and finally put the last borders on my Celtic Solstice top. Yeah. I know it's not like I finished the whole quilt, but I like to celebrate the baby steps and this was a big one. Some of you saw my tweet about my helper wanting to help out with the measuring. I get moments like that :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Smoky helping with the measurements:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8qea3kZ3PEs/U08SyA17OlI/AAAAAAAAPAg/4GYDmasBKKw/s1600/Celtic+Solstice+Kormi+ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8qea3kZ3PEs/U08SyA17OlI/AAAAAAAAPAg/4GYDmasBKKw/s1600/Celtic+Solstice+Kormi+ew.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I decided to make a yellow binding for this one, just to contrast the dark green outer border, I'll have to get working on that.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yesterday I ordered the batting for this baby and another one I want to finish. Now I only have to figure out what I'm gonna do about the backing. The local quilt show is coming up in 2 weeks, so I might just wait and get wide quilt backs locally instead of ordering online. Hope they'll have a good selection! If not, I was really contemplating the new-to-me Robert Kaufman quilt backings. I just haven't decided if I wanted blue or green. Decisions, decisions!</div>
<br />
Meanwhile, here's the top:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DaFKC8LNnqo/U08S0XFCD4I/AAAAAAAAPAo/D0l3dJvPq2M/s1600/IMG_0688+top+cew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DaFKC8LNnqo/U08S0XFCD4I/AAAAAAAAPAo/D0l3dJvPq2M/s1600/IMG_0688+top+cew.jpg" height="640" width="622" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fiance is a tall guy with long arms, but even he couldn't reach as far as the edges go so the upper corners are kind of cut off, but you can get the picture without them. :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm trying to decide on a layout for my Lucky Stars 2013 blocks. I'm contemplating putting them on point, which I've never done before. I just want to make the quilt a little larger, since it's 36"x 48" with the 12 blocks that measure 12". I even mocked up my theory in EQ7, in straight setting with flying geese in the sashing, and on point with the same flying geese. Again, I'll just have to make up my mind.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
Here are the blocks:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f4VrORt-DuE/U08YSckDQPI/AAAAAAAAPBI/v5gUSoLBXGM/s1600/Lucky+Stars+2013+blocks+cew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f4VrORt-DuE/U08YSckDQPI/AAAAAAAAPBI/v5gUSoLBXGM/s1600/Lucky+Stars+2013+blocks+cew.jpg" height="418" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Do you have any suggestions? Let me know in the comment section below! :)<br />
<br />
And finally my dear Sleepy turned 3 last Friday!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Several weeks ago Sandi (@quiltcabana) who can be found at <a href="http://quiltcabanapatterns.com/blog">quiltcabanapatterns.com/blog</a> announced on her podcast that She's organizing a fabric postcard swap again, this time to celebrate Spring. As we all know that most of the country got a lot more snow this winter than we are normally used to, and I have to say, where I live we're still dealing with below freezing high temperatures during the day. I happily signed up since I really enjoyed the swap we had for Christmas. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My swap partner was Sandy (@sandyquiltz) who is blogging and podcasting at <a href="http://quiltingfortherestofus.com/">http://quiltingfortherestofus.com/</a> <br />
<br />
She sent me this fabulous card which I loved!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WVrUPZ_Oj68/UzYRf6y3eEI/AAAAAAAAOsQ/oniuyWPWMuY/s1600/IMG_0675ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WVrUPZ_Oj68/UzYRf6y3eEI/AAAAAAAAOsQ/oniuyWPWMuY/s1600/IMG_0675ecw.jpg" height="446" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As some of you may know orange is my all time favorite color so I was so happy to see that She used so much of it in the card :) The texture is really cool, the center of the flower has some really sparkly stuff, which always make me smile :) She has a tutorial of how She made it <a href="http://networkedblogs.com/Vnm8f">on her blog.</a> Check it out, it's a REALLY nice technique!<br />
<br />
I know She's really artsy, and I wanted to make a card for Her from one of my photos which I took either last year, or the year before, of a daffodil that just opened it's petals. Needless to say, I didn't find the picture on my hard drive, and decided to go for a less original method of looking for drawings in EQ7. I printed the pattern and wanted to try out Beth Ferrier's machine applique method using freezer paper. I modified my technique a little bit, as I didn't have to take the freezer paper out at the end, so I appliqued the tulips on a background fused to timtex to give the postcard some stiffness. It was fairly easy to make after I decided which pattern I wanted to do. Next I just glued all the tulips and leaves on the background (which I picked out thinking about blue skies) and stitched it down with somewhat matching thread I could find in my thread "collection" :) Last, I wanted to satin stitch around the edges with yellow thread to represent sunshine, which Sandy very rarely have where She lives.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here is the card:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-isu98FGpV30/UyeY0eZTepI/AAAAAAAAN_Y/xvl7lWCtVr0/s1600/IMG_0663ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-isu98FGpV30/UyeY0eZTepI/AAAAAAAAN_Y/xvl7lWCtVr0/s1600/IMG_0663ecw.jpg" height="456" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I wrote the message on the back, took some photos, and sent it in an envelope through the post office. I didn't want to risk sending it "bare" because I was afraid it'll get wet and the writing will run on the back. She really liked it which makes me happy. The little joys of life, right?<br />
<br />
I am looking forward to the Summer swap which is coming up next, are you signing up? You better! You can go to Sandi's website to email her, or She's @quiltcabana on Twitter. Hope you will join us!<br />

Welcome back!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been away for a little while, working on some things here and there, and also made progress. Unfortunately no pictures, since nothing is finished :( I don't want to bore anybody with posting the same pictures over and over again with very little change.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There's one thing I finished, which is the Star Crown block for November of the Lucky Stars BOM 2013. This is the last block of the year, I mean last year :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All is left to do is to assemble all of them into a quilt top. It's gonna be interesting to do since I think I want to put sashing around all of them to eliminate the paper and bring them all to the same size. I will lay them out on my design bed and put sashing on every other block. I can't wait to see what it will look like! Right now they're all hanging nicely on hangers on my sewing room door knob :))</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since I don't read directions with paper piecing, I had miss-cut the fabrics and did not reverse some of the units I was supposed to. As a result I got a pinwheel background instead of 4 squares. Oh, well, I will not redo it. For sure :)</div>
<br />
The block was supposed to look like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qyRFRmjStV8/UyHDtPQp_7I/AAAAAAAAN9Q/fwoLSpJFdss/s1600/November+-+Crown+star+original.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qyRFRmjStV8/UyHDtPQp_7I/AAAAAAAAN9Q/fwoLSpJFdss/s1600/November+-+Crown+star+original.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And instead, partly because I didn't have a lighter gray fabric, and partly for the mistake, mine came out like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ciJIHMZaQm8/UyHDwSfBySI/AAAAAAAAN9Y/QFMj84GhYD0/s1600/IMG_0659ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ciJIHMZaQm8/UyHDwSfBySI/AAAAAAAAN9Y/QFMj84GhYD0/s1600/IMG_0659ewc.jpg" height="610" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I truly like this one, the colors go together so well. I had to dig into my Christmas fabrics to pull the reds out. I store those in a separate box.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am still working away on my Celtic Solstice top. I have the first 2 borders on, will have to cut the third, green border to attach and the top is done. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have so many ideas in my mind, and about 4-5 tops that would need to be basted. I feel like I can't make serious progress because I always want to start something new instead of basting the ones I have. I know once basting is done I can finish it quickly because I'm always excited for the quilting part.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also still have to make my Spring post card for the swap I signed up for. Lots to do!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="font-size: large;">'Til we blog again!</span></i></div>
Kati from Kati's Quiltinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06629049955792425959noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6717875797969584291.post-57932562430683118482014-01-23T20:53:00.000-05:002014-01-23T20:53:34.415-05:00I feel like I have raving to do...<div style="text-align: justify;">
So here's my story:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am a member on <a href="http://craftsy.com/">Craftsy.com</a>, the best website (at least IMHO) for taking online quilting/sewing/cooking/baking classes. They have awesome teachers, and once you buy a class you have access to it 24/7 and they never expire. If you have not heard of them, or have not taken any classes from them, I highly recommend them to anybody.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I signed up for quite a few classes and going through them slowly (you know a girl's gotta sew!). I get emails from them from time to time stating when they have sales, or they give out special offers. I got one of those a few days ago, letting me know that 2 of their classes were on sale, if I'm correct they were 50% off, both for $14.99. As I saw the class titles I knew I had signed up to both of them already, so just for fun I wrote back:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">"<span style="background-color: white;">That's a bummer, because I have both of them in the queue already... :)))" </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few hours later I got and email from Patty who thanked me for reaching out to them and being an active member of the community. Talking about making me feel good! :) She explained to me that their goal is to reach out to members with offers that they think the member would be the most interested in. And since I have a ton of classes in my queue already, it's hard for them to offer classes that I don't own already. Ehem :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She basically extended the offer and asked me which classes I would be interested in. I wrote back to her and named the 3 classes I most wanted to get (didn't want to be pushy and let her know that all of the ones I don't have already, LOL!). And also had a question which I think most of the quilting community would like to see, which is having the option to add friends on Craftsy to be able to see who is taking what classes and what projects they're working on. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Patty put the 3 classes in my cart for the sale price of $14.99 each. I was stunned! Also She'd let me know that She will let the rest of the team know about the request of being able to make friends and they will consider it in the future.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I just wanted to say, thank you so much Craftsy team, you're doing a terrific job!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Disclosure: this blog post is my own opinion based on my own experience.</div>

I'm thrilled to report that I'm done with all the units for Celtic Solstice Mystery, yaaaay! They are all sewn and trimmed, ready to be put into blocks. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I just printed out the Clue 6 directions and will start to sew the blocks together.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here are my Clue 5 units, which are the shaded 4 patch blocks that we also used in the Easy Street Mystery Quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yWpwNBawErc/UtMf_oamH8I/AAAAAAAAMrw/VOCA8IOVOYQ/s1600/IMG_0630+Part+5+doneew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yWpwNBawErc/UtMf_oamH8I/AAAAAAAAMrw/VOCA8IOVOYQ/s1600/IMG_0630+Part+5+doneew.jpg" height="456" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I got a lot of feedback from people that they liked the colors I picked. I can't wait to see this top all together!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I think I'm gonna have to make a list of my tops waiting to be quilted so I can go and buy the batting I need to finish them all. Exciting times ahead! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll be starting a new project with applique very soon with Gretchen from <a href="http://120blocks.com/">120 blocks</a> blog. We decided to tackle this together and I can't wait to start! I haven't decided if I want to do hand applique, or discover the machine applique world, or do both. We'll see what the future brings!</div>

I am really glad you're back!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I just want to give a quick update about what I've been sewing the last few days while on vacation. It's Sunday night now and yesterday was the first day I left our house since Monday's grocery run. Does that say something? Also on Thursday we had a snow storm with 10" of snow so I thought it was appropriate if I were sewing all day for a few days. I had lots of food made before the snow hit and since it's freezing cold outside, I have a second fridge on our covered porch.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1_dPz11zztY/UsniYngoefI/AAAAAAAAMh0/NOb3y_bbuTs/s1600/20140103_074917.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1_dPz11zztY/UsniYngoefI/AAAAAAAAMh0/NOb3y_bbuTs/s1600/20140103_074917.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span id="goog_943886346"></span><span id="goog_943886347"></span>Stuffed cabbage, chicken soup, and lentils, all snowed in now :)))<br />
<br />
Everything is white! Too bad it was a windy storm and not all the snow stayed on the trees :( It's not as pretty as it is usually.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ez4nNOjqSNs/UsnwEKz8a1I/AAAAAAAAMiI/fJ75Egk_OCc/s1600/20140103_075422.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ez4nNOjqSNs/UsnwEKz8a1I/AAAAAAAAMiI/fJ75Egk_OCc/s1600/20140103_075422.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been working away on the Celtic Solstice Mystery quilt. Since my last blog post I completed Clue #3 and Clue #4. While making all the small pieces I was thinking maybe next year I'll try to make the units twice the size and make less of them to see how that works out? Or after I see the reveal for this one I can decide if it would work with bigger units.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Clue #3 in the trimming progress:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cuJhKR3THHg/Usnwn-68jsI/AAAAAAAAMiQ/A4dIvufMndU/s1600/20140102_215927+part3+trimmingw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cuJhKR3THHg/Usnwn-68jsI/AAAAAAAAMiQ/A4dIvufMndU/s1600/20140102_215927+part3+trimmingw.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And all the 25 pretty pinwheels:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n833Go1he7k/UsnwtgZ2dxI/AAAAAAAAMiY/Fz9QUeOZDyI/s1600/IMG_0623+part3ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n833Go1he7k/UsnwtgZ2dxI/AAAAAAAAMiY/Fz9QUeOZDyI/s1600/IMG_0623+part3ew.jpg" height="402" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't you just love yellow and orange together? I certainly do!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now here are 120 4 patches for clue #4 before trimming:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NabLrjJisio/UsnxFdoMyCI/AAAAAAAAMig/6BiBGBn4u0s/s1600/IMG_0626+part+4ew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NabLrjJisio/UsnxFdoMyCI/AAAAAAAAMig/6BiBGBn4u0s/s1600/IMG_0626+part+4ew.jpg" height="392" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I still have Clue #5 left which I am eager to finish as the next step is the reveal and I don't want to see it until all my units are done.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="font-size: large;">'Til we blog again! :)</span></i></div>

Hey Everybody,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Happy New Year!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have you made your quilty resolutions yet? No? It's okay, I haven't either! I was never the New Years resolution kind myself. On the other hand I'd like to get some things done this year, which I think will go in another blog post. Right now I set down to give an update on my progress on the Celtic Solstice Mystery quilt I'm making hosted by Bonnie Hunter <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/celtic-solstice-mystery.html">@Quiltville</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It all started with me being behind. That seems to be the situation lately a lot. Does that make any sense? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So this means I didn't start in time because I was too busy to get things done for Christmas and last December was a little more work than I anticipated. On the upside I've been home for Christmas break since the 20th and now that the Holidays are done I have time to sew!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I picked out my fabrics which are following Bonnie's suggestions:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uU6WSBqXwD8/UsV18Fxg4CI/AAAAAAAAMac/12msdPwa0xE/s1600/IMG_0605+alltogetherw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uU6WSBqXwD8/UsV18Fxg4CI/AAAAAAAAMac/12msdPwa0xE/s640/IMG_0605+alltogetherw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My greens:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GNa6Yk2ytQA/UsV10DU6R9I/AAAAAAAAMZ0/xgWCr0lh4vc/s1600/IMG_0596+greensw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="460" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GNa6Yk2ytQA/UsV10DU6R9I/AAAAAAAAMZ0/xgWCr0lh4vc/s640/IMG_0596+greensw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Blues:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s68xdJWraEA/UsV12GwaLII/AAAAAAAAMZ8/pdBA1VDKXNo/s1600/IMG_0598+bluesw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="412" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s68xdJWraEA/UsV12GwaLII/AAAAAAAAMZ8/pdBA1VDKXNo/s640/IMG_0598+bluesw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Oranges:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BipaRJ3M1XM/UsV12-CPFaI/AAAAAAAAMaA/_Pf1CjzjWa0/s1600/IMG_0600+orangesw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="366" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BipaRJ3M1XM/UsV12-CPFaI/AAAAAAAAMaA/_Pf1CjzjWa0/s640/IMG_0600+orangesw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Yellows:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hXfIeBHG19U/UsV14d9P95I/AAAAAAAAMaM/UV3-gCGejEM/s1600/IMG_0601+yellowsw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="386" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hXfIeBHG19U/UsV14d9P95I/AAAAAAAAMaM/UV3-gCGejEM/s640/IMG_0601+yellowsw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Neutrals:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u49VzrIDfkM/UsV15mvKoUI/AAAAAAAAMaU/mdwoZ4wsr7M/s1600/IMG_0603+neutralsw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="406" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u49VzrIDfkM/UsV15mvKoUI/AAAAAAAAMaU/mdwoZ4wsr7M/s640/IMG_0603+neutralsw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I started to work on part 1 which involved to use the Tri-rex rulers. Have you used those? I had a fun time cutting even though it's not my favorite in the quilting process. My first time using the rulers which was pretty interesting. I had to figure out exactly how to position the ruler to get the point and the sides in line exactly. I worked it out after a few tries so here are my finished units for Step 1:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-roFLNuojYCw/UsV3GcuFl9I/AAAAAAAAMao/X_ylaF2FxHc/s1600/IMG_0612+part1+donew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="472" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-roFLNuojYCw/UsV3GcuFl9I/AAAAAAAAMao/X_ylaF2FxHc/s640/IMG_0612+part1+donew.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The second step was making chevrons. We were using the method of sewing the seam on the right side of the marked line to be sure the flipped triangle will be big enough which resulted in having to trim. In the trimming process with the first half I didn't pay attention to leave the background green part and only trim the white triangles so at the end my points don't exactly match up, but guess what? I will not start making them all over again because they took stinking forever to make!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here they are all trimmed (Step 2):</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-on077G00F8Q/UsV4soXOFNI/AAAAAAAAMa0/0rxiJxQ4lBQ/s1600/IMG_0618+part2+done.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-on077G00F8Q/UsV4soXOFNI/AAAAAAAAMa0/0rxiJxQ4lBQ/s640/IMG_0618+part2+done.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm on part 3 in which were're making half square triangles out of yellow and orange fabrics. I'll post pictures of those when I'm done.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's all for now, I better get back to sewing because Bonnie has the reveal out which I don't want to see until I'm all caught up!</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

Kati from Kati's Quiltinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06629049955792425959noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6717875797969584291.post-43402052960556134172013-12-21T15:02:00.001-05:002013-12-21T15:02:11.323-05:00SPOILER ALERT! Chain of Stars Mystery Quilt top done<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been slowly working away on the Chain of Stars Mystery Quilt I signed up for on Craftsy. The quilt came in different sizes and first I picked the 64" x 64", but then I changed my mind and made the 48" x 48" layout. I like the result a lot. I had a little booboo that I had to correct which resulted in multiple attempts to fix the problem. I think I had to take the top apart twice before I could put it back together the right way. Then I took pictures of it to post it on the blog, and after editing the first one I realized I still had a turn in it that I had to take it apart again. I think I'll name this one 3rd time is the charm :))</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I think I will put borders on the top and bottom to make it a rectangle, I don't know why I like them better than being square. Maybe because our bed is a rectangle? Who knows!<br />
<br />
Top #1:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aIWjyNGI3Uc/UrXyjQuxl-I/AAAAAAAAMDs/pVzq7Ne_sUc/s1600/IMG_0519ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="632" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aIWjyNGI3Uc/UrXyjQuxl-I/AAAAAAAAMDs/pVzq7Ne_sUc/s640/IMG_0519ecw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Top#2:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RTP2cJ9AlwA/UrXymev73jI/AAAAAAAAMD4/otezRzj9QeE/s1600/IMG_0583ecw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RTP2cJ9AlwA/UrXymev73jI/AAAAAAAAMD4/otezRzj9QeE/s640/IMG_0583ecw.jpg" width="632" /></a></div>
<br />
Top#3, the final result:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ND4lYOtGmng/UrXymkbtHNI/AAAAAAAAMD8/YEPudeb0A84/s1600/IMG_0591ewc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ND4lYOtGmng/UrXymkbtHNI/AAAAAAAAMD8/YEPudeb0A84/s640/IMG_0591ewc.jpg" width="612" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course by the time I got to photograph it it became cloudy outside so the colors are truest on the second picture. I didn't want to edit the photos too much.<br />
<br />

I signed up to swap fabric holiday cards with some of my twitter friends. Sandi <a href="http://quiltcabanapatterns.com/blog/">@quiltcabana</a> arranged the swap and signed the partners. My partner was Kim, who I don't know I never talked to so it was a little hard to think of what should I make. I tried to research some ideas, but to be honest, not too many are out there that are using fabric. I was lucky Sandi linked a few websites to look up how to make them. I decided with a window look and pine trees background. I finished the edges with binding from pure lazyness. I didn't feel like taking my sewing machine out to do decorative stitching. I figured it's a lot faster and easier just make a binding and call it done. I did some free motion quilting on the fabrics to give it texture. I outlined the pine tree and did pebbles in the background. Also took the fabric as a guide to draw the pine branches that were printed on one of the fabrics.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really enjoyed the process, got to practice my handwriting with free motion quilting. My practice piece looked really good, but when it came down quilting the real thing I guess I got sloppy. I had to pick out the first stitching line and start over. It doesn't look as good as the original one, but it'll do. That's the best I can do for now at least.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After quilting I ironed the white fabric on timtex and ironed heat'n'bond on the timtex to hold the front and back of the card together. I sewed the binding on the front and hand stitched down on the back. I used a fine line fabric marking pen to write the address and sender. The final size is 5"x7". I don't mind paying extra at the post office, but I didn't want to make such a small card. The writing would've been really difficult to do by machine.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was a really fun project, I'll look up more designs now I know how to make it. Hope you'll try it, I enjoyed the process a lot!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Here's the card I made:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k4x9_-kna6s/UqdltWlEk6I/AAAAAAAALwE/sM-3FR88tAQ/s1600/IMG_0551cw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k4x9_-kna6s/UqdltWlEk6I/AAAAAAAALwE/sM-3FR88tAQ/s640/IMG_0551cw.jpg" width="464" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nkeo7yJTZpI/Uqdl0cbj-BI/AAAAAAAALwM/4fZe9lxasv8/s1600/IMG_0553w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nkeo7yJTZpI/Uqdl0cbj-BI/AAAAAAAALwM/4fZe9lxasv8/s640/IMG_0553w.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And here's the one I received from Kim just yesterday:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RSG6DRMwHNQ/UqdmgSEwcZI/AAAAAAAALwU/gnpNTlx7ML0/s1600/IMG_0562cw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="454" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RSG6DRMwHNQ/UqdmgSEwcZI/AAAAAAAALwU/gnpNTlx7ML0/s640/IMG_0562cw.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It's such a cute picture with Santa and the reindeer :))) I'm really glad I participated in the swap! Thank you so much Kim for taking the time and put this gorgeous postcard together!<br />

It's time for the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2013/10/25/bloggers-quilt-festival-fall-2013/">Blogger's Quilt Festival</a> again, hosted by the super Amy Ellis @amyscreativeside.com. This year I'm entering the Dresden Quilt I made for my friend's daughter's 1st Birthday. It's made with pink and white fabrics so I will enter it in the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2013/10/25/bloggers-quilt-festival-two-color-quilts-2/">two color quilts category</a>. If you really like the quilt I'd appreciate your nomination :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I finished the quilt in August, 2012. It was machine pieced, hand appliqued, and machine quilted by me. The little cute pinwheels in the corners are 3-D which I'm really proud of :) I really loved making this quilt and even did a <a href="http://katisquilting.blogspot.com/2012/07/lets-get-acquainted-blog-hop.html">tutorial</a> how to do the Dresden plates block and a perfect circle. The blocks are 12" finished, there are 2" sashings with cornerstones, and the borders measure 4". The finished size of the quilt is 48" x 60".</div>
<br />
Here are the pictures I took, enjoy!<br />

Yes, that's right! With my yesterday afternoon marathon sewing I am all caught up with the Lucky Stars BOM 2013. Hurray! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
The block for October is Chaos Star:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y_ADqeZrIo8/UmV2vizJ5AI/AAAAAAAAKbA/im45dOgp9yc/s1600/IMG_0509cew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="621" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y_ADqeZrIo8/UmV2vizJ5AI/AAAAAAAAKbA/im45dOgp9yc/s640/IMG_0509cew.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Uh-huh, the name says it all. When I printed the pattern and looked at the fabric requirements my eyes just popped out :) 9 different fabrics for each section. That means 72 pieces in this 1 block. It took me a while, but it was all worth it. I had all the fabrics picked and cut out to shapes on Saturday, so all that was left was sewing for yesterday. I'm glad I'm caught up so I can move on to other projects, like finishing quilting and assembling my Christmas quilt, and I'd like to start the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/chain-of-stars-mystery-quilt/175?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-qbb&_ctp=175,1">Chain of Stars mystery quilt</a> I signed up on Craftsy. I'd watched a few lessons and selected the fabrics I wanted to use already, but have not cut anything just yet.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What are you working on?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hope you're having as nice a day as we do here in the Northeast!<br />
<br />
I'm linking up with <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: start;"> </span><a href="http://marelize-ries.blogspot.com/2013/10/anything-goes-mondays-39.html" style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: start; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank"><span style="color: black;">Marelize at Stitch by Stitch for Anything Goes Monday.</span></a><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since my last post I finished another block for the Lucky Stars BOM. If you're interested in joining Elizabeth has next year's BOM up on her <a href="http://www.dontcallmebetsy.com/p/lucky-stars-bom.html">website</a> already and you can join 2013 and 2014 for a discounted price. I really like her designs, sometimes change the colors when I don't have the fabrics She's using in her sample.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The star of September is the Windmill Star</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dwQO2qq9fE0/UmLWrBRcNQI/AAAAAAAAKZ8/384iawqp1uw/s1600/IMG_0504cew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="612" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dwQO2qq9fE0/UmLWrBRcNQI/AAAAAAAAKZ8/384iawqp1uw/s640/IMG_0504cew.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had a busy week so it took me a few nights since I could only work on it minutes at the time. It's finished, and that's what counts :) I'll be picking out the fabrics for the October block and then I'll be starting a new quilt top. The boys are fishing this afternoon and I will have a few hours of sewing time before they return.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since last week I also finished 2 books. The first one is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Lost-Garden-Novel-Helen-Humphreys/dp/0393324915/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1382209433&sr=1-1&keywords=the+lost+garden+by+helen+humphreys">The Lost Garden</a> by Helen Humphreys. The story is set in 1941 in England while WVII is going on. I have to admit the story was a bit slow (specially after those mystery stories I was reading lately) and I was eager to find out what happens with the lady it is about. I really liked reading about restoring gardens, it took me to a different place while I was reading.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The other one was a quilting novel called <a href="http://product.half.ebay.com/The-Quilters-Apprentice-by-Jennifer-Chiaverini-2000-Paperback/1616363&tg=info">The Quilter's Apprentice</a> by Jennifer Chiaverini. What a lovely story! Loving hand piecing myself I really enjoyed how things went along. I only read one other book written by her, but I will buy all the Elm Creek Novels in sequence this time :) This story is set in modern days and has flashbacks about a quilter's life. I can highly recommend it to any quilter who enjoys reading. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since I'm on a roll I will be reading the last book in the Chet and Bernie series I mentioned last time. It's called <a href="http://product.half.ebay.com/To-Fetch-a-Thief-by-Spencer-Quinn-2010-Hardcover/102739744&tg=info">To Fetch a Thief</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I'm off to pick those fabrics while I can!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I am finally back after a long hiatus and it feels great! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As some of you know I had computer problems and finally my laptop died (R.I.P). I tried to keep up with reading the blogs I follow on my tablet, but it didn't always work. It gets frustrating after a while when you're trying to leave a comment and make a mistake, try to go back to correct it and then you pull the page down too much and your comment disappears when it goes back to the previous page. I couldn't sync my camera with the tablet so uploading photos was out of the picture. And what is a blog post without photos, right? I had a friend tweeting her confession which said She doesn't always read the blog posts when they have no pictures. Boo-hoo :))</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used my computer-less time for reading some books which I really enjoyed. I started a series of books by accident when I was watching my friend's house while they were on vacation and I found a book where the title was <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Thereby-Hangs-Tail-Mystery-Mysteries/dp/1416585869/ref=wp_bs_2_B00CJ5UNV0_paperback">Thereby hangs a tail</a>... There's a dog on the cover and I know She loves dogs. I gave it a try and it was a nice surprise. Specially when I found out that it was a series of mysteries. Since then I bought the rest of the series and been reading all of them. Of course out of order, because that's how I roll :)) The stories are not building on each other so each book makes sense on its own. If you like mystery and humor from a dog point of view I can highly recommend them. They were written by Spencer Quinn.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was not sewing terribly too much, but made progress here and there.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was catching up on my Lucky Star BOM blocks, I made a few of them in about 2 days. They're all paper pieced and take quiet a while to make.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's my May block called Spotlight Star<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e6idsThi4Rw/Ul60xThYCUI/AAAAAAAAKQE/fT4cSmFpm34/s1600/IMG_0489cew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e6idsThi4Rw/Ul60xThYCUI/AAAAAAAAKQE/fT4cSmFpm34/s640/IMG_0489cew.jpg" width="636" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The one for June is Sunlight Star<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FH5MzlcZiBA/Ul64YNVzh1I/AAAAAAAAKQs/OHoDO5fCPM4/s1600/IMG_0493cew3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="600" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FH5MzlcZiBA/Ul64YNVzh1I/AAAAAAAAKQs/OHoDO5fCPM4/s640/IMG_0493cew3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And July is Dulcet Star<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gIYRoEncDoQ/Ul628ZQNzNI/AAAAAAAAKQY/76JtxlQ20VY/s1600/IMG_0495cew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="622" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gIYRoEncDoQ/Ul628ZQNzNI/AAAAAAAAKQY/76JtxlQ20VY/s640/IMG_0495cew.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Finally here's August which is called Pinwheel Star<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k3YkBw_amCo/Ul63KdegHYI/AAAAAAAAKQg/z0LMvKbluk4/s1600/IMG_0499cew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="622" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k3YkBw_amCo/Ul63KdegHYI/AAAAAAAAKQg/z0LMvKbluk4/s640/IMG_0499cew.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Note:The spots that look like dirt are glue underneath which will come off once I removed the paper which is after the blocks are connected into a quilt top.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also finished piecing the top for my Easy Street quilt. I have not found a name for it yet. It was funny when I wanted to start piecing the rest of the blocks together and my machine didn't want to wind the bobbin. I haven't used that machine since maybe Spring so it wasn't surprising how it resented me. I gave it a VERY good cleaning and it was working perfectly again. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know I will be quilting it and bought a special wool batting for it which I can't wait to try since I've never worked with wool. I just need a big enough space to spread it out for basting. Someone suggested to go down to the local church, but I'm not sure how they would receive my request since I don't belong to any of them. We're not big on church in this house. Do you think it's not too embarrassing to ask? I would appreciate any feedback on that.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm also planning on making the September and October paper pieced blocks so those pictures are going to be coming soon. Right now I'm working on the binding on Easy Street which you can guess what color it's gonna be :))</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, and I was asked to make some baby blankets for a local co-op where the blanket maker moved away and they don't have anybody to take her place. I ordered these super cute fabrics from the Fatquarter shop and they were here in 2 days. I am really happy with how they look. What would be a good backing besides flannel? I'm just making the simple pillowcase style where they're sewn right sides together and then turned inside out and stitched on the edge with maybe a zigzag or some kind of decorative stitch.<br />
<br />
That's all for now, I'll be back soon with the September block.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="font-size: large;">'Til we blog again! :)</span></i></div>
